Osteopathy Treatment

Osteopaths treat using gentle soft tissue, mobilisation and osteopathic manipulation techniques on the body; osteopathic treatment at the Cambridge osteopathy and and physical rehabilitation clinc, helping encourage the body to return to better structure and function.

The person as a whole is taken into account and therefore the osteopath will not only help reduce the symptoms you present with, but will also help to find out the reason they occurred and try to stop that reoccurring.

Therefore, at times, osteopathy treatment, including osteopathic manipulation, osteopathic mobilisation and soft tissue therapy, may be given to very different areas of the body to the primary complaint.

Osteopathy (osteopathic medicine), one of the primary focuses of this Cambridge osteopathy and physical rehabilitation clinc, is an independent system that can be applied to all conditions of ‘dis-ease’, yet can be incorporated alongside ‘traditional’ medical procedures and treatments.

Osteopathy is based on these key theories, integrated together to aid structural performance and bodily functions, ensuring their continued healthy function.

  • The body is a whole, and functions as such.
  • Structure and function may be reciprocally interrelated, i.e. one affects the other.
  • The body has a self protecting and regulating mechanism, that has a tendency towards the normal.
  • Movement of body fluids is essential to maintain health.
  • When normal adaptability is disrupted, or when environmental changes overcome the body’s capacity for self-maintenance, disease may follow.

There are structural components to disease and these are not always manifestations of the disease, but are factors in the development and maintenance of the dis-ease state.

A friend recommended Michael as the best osteopath ever, and I have to agree he is. He engages you and explains clearly what the problems are and what you can do to help yourself in addition to his treatments. Brilliant!

Osteopathy Consultation Procedure

For new patients, or the application of new therapies, a full case history is taken, and any prior investigations discussed, so these can be taken into consideration.

Next, if clinically appropriate, you may be asked to dress down to your underwear to allow us to look at the presenting problem. (However, feel free to wear small shorts, if it makes you feel more comfortable). You will then be asked to perform simple motions to help us gain information and understand your posture and interpret this in regards to your presenting complaint.

Then, a detailed passive examination, along with some specific investigations will be performed. A diagnosis will then be discussed, and if appropriate at this point, treatment will begin by our consulting osteopath Cambridge. Osteopathic treatment can include osteopathic manipulation, Osteopathic mobilisation and soft tissue therapy.

During this process and any subsequent osteopathy treatments, you are welcome to have another adult individual present at the Cambridge osteopathy clinic, to act as a supportive chaperone, if required.

We recommend your first visit is a Complex Case Consultation for the more complex cases and athletic pursuits.

We recommend you evaluate if your first consultation should be a Complex Case Consultation, prior to booking the First Osteopathy Consultation.

The Initial Consultation (First Osteopathy Consultation) will last 45 minutes, and all follow up appointments for treatment will last 30 minutes, unless a 60 minutes treatment is required.

We recommend a Child’s first visit is a First Paediatric Consultation.
