Specialised Physical Rehabilitation, Supporting Physical Development, Re-Development & Performance:

Motor Control Development & Optimisation By Physical Rehabilitation

Motor Control Development & Optimisation – Physical Rehabilitation

As we develop and grow from small children to strong adults, and continuing into their adulthood, some people require additional help, to navigate and achieve their personal best. This can include some neurological disorders and developmental illnesses that require additional support.

With repeatable and comparable assessments (movement assessment), we will work to evaluate neuro-motor, structural and functional health, help assist in the early detection and supportive intervention of developmental disturbances, find key weak links, and provide physical rehabilitation support.

Together we can learn using approaches such as the Paediatric Consultation, and the Complex Case Consultation, to distinguish the likely need to obtain further additional assessment, or when to introduce immediate supportive interventions with key principles to guide us with these treatments. Treatments such as motor control training, where we focus on cortical plasticity, and the development of functional controls.

The goal of these movement assessments and treatments is to determine the type of postural and movement patterns available, assess current neuromuscular functions, and highlight abnormalities in neuro-motor development, which aids in the early establishment of treatment strategies.

Ensuring to get the best start and ongoing optimisation!

Exercise Rehabilitative Health Services For an Elderly / Geriatric Person

Elderly Rehabilitation & Maintaining Strength – Physical Rehabilitation

Elderly persons (Geriatric persons) can sometimes find themselves aware of their current physical capabilities, but desiring to gain more confidence and greater performance with their body.

This can originate for many reasons, playing and enjoying your sports often, preparation for surgery (prehabilitation), after surgery (rehabilitation), illness, inactivity, lockdowns, deconditioning, injury, stiffness, painful joints and tissues, and falls.

We don’t just treat the site of pain. Through experiential learning and active change, we will work together with you to find your areas of physical need, and how to physically rehabilitate these, getting your muscles working effectively, gaining motor control, building balance and joint stability, building strength, maintaining that strength, reducing pain, and learning how to perform ‘software resets’ when you feel something needs your re-focus.

Our highly experienced team can show you how you can gain so much with a rehabilitation programme, including confidence in yourself and your body’s abilities. You can restore movement in your own joints, by keeping your joints moving, or restoring motion, you will learn how to reduce the symptoms associated with your difficulties, including common symptoms and long standing symptoms such as pain (chronic pain) of osteo-arthritis and other long standing conditions (chronic conditions), while reducing the need for invasive treatment and any potentially unnecessary medication.

We can support you in taking back independence, and if, or when you are ready, safely giving up and letting go of the dependency model that supported you to where you are now. Let’s outline an opportunity to progress!

Michael is an outstanding professional and is at the top of his field.

After struggling with a debilitating injury, preventing me from running for around 8 months, having had regular physiotherapy and osteopathy at other practices, I made an appointment with Michael in Cambridge. I am now back to running, with no set backs at all. Furthermore, he has corrected a profound curve in my back that I have had since childhood, which all professionals I had seen previously said was untreatable – in just two months!

Michael has an extensive and unique skillset, allowing him to diagnose complex conditions at their root cause, and create highly tailored rehab programs suited to the patient; far beyond what you might expect from a standard physio or osteopath.

As well as the comprehensive skillsets of physiotherapists and osteopaths, he has extensive training in dynamic neuromuscular stabilization (DNS), a cutting-edge field at the forefront of physiotherapy; which applies current knowledge of the neuromuscular system, and its involvement in exercise and injury. Michael’s extensive knowledge of neuroscience further allows him to apply this technique intuitively – with incredible results.

Physical Rehabilitation Consultation Procedure

For new patients, or the application of new therapies, a full case history is taken, all provided images and reports reviewed, and any prior investigations and current goals discussed, so these can be taken into consideration.

Next, if clinically appropriate, you may be asked to dress down to your underwear to allow us to look at the presenting problem. (However, feel free to wear small shorts, if it makes you feel more comfortable). if clinically appropriate, under the presence of an ‘appropriate adult’ with ‘parental responsibility’, to examine a child properly, your child may be asked, or you may be asked to assist dress down of the child to underwear, to allow us to look at the presenting problem (However, for a Juvenile or Adolescent patient, they can wear small shorts, if it makes them feel more comfortable).

The assessment will then be dependent on the age of the patient, their needs, and the presenting focus of consultation. For a child the assessment is outlined as part of the Paediatric Consultation.

As an example, for an adult sports patient, you will then be asked to perform simple motions (movement assessment), a mixture of postures, motions and training patterns (dynamic assessment), along with some specific investigations and screening methods that will be performed, and necessary measurements taken. To help us gain information and understand your posture, body shape and movement capacity, and then interpret this in regards to your presenting complaint and goals. Identifying key links in your case, for record and re-evaluation.

Then, when required, a detailed passive examination, along with some specific investigations will be performed. If required, additional examination, and questioning will take place. A diagnosis will then be discussed, and if appropriate at this point, treatment will begin.

For treatment, we provide a seamlessly layered combination approach, of education and therapeutic application. This includes education of anatomy, development patterns, movement patterns, asymmetry patterns and pain theories, therapy theories, performance attributes, manual therapy, osteopathy, posture advice and training, lifestyle advice, hydrotherapy guidance, dietary overviews, and dynamic exercise therapy with motor control training and physical rehabilitation, with a rehabilitation programme.

All of these work together to provide a uniquely structured approach, towards the aim of restoring your brain’s interpretation, or ‘mapping’ of your healthy functioning body, giving you back the control!

Working to form, a range of preventative methods, stopping or slowing de-conditioning, correction of current condition reductions, introducing corrective intervention, reduction of pain, establishing a rehabilitation programme, improved quality of life, improve exercise mechanics, improve breathing, encouraging mobilisation and flexibility and stabilization of correct postures, maintenance of the achieved corrections, education including attempts for correction of normal activity postures and training of activities of daily living (ADL’s), and how to train into athleticism.

After treatment intervention, you will be re-assessed to ensure efficacy, and to optimize, the development of therapeutic strategies, for precision care and training.

Guidance for aftercare will also be provided, which assists by aiding to establish and prioritise lifestyle and training components, which can be initiated independently. As an adjunct in achieving your goals.

During this process and any subsequent assessments and treatments, you are welcome to have another adult individual present, to act as a supportive chaperone, if required. An ‘appropriate adult’ with ‘parental responsibility’, will need to accompany a child to their appointments. The appropriate adult, is also welcome to have another adult individual present, to act as a supportive chaperone, if required.

We recommend your first consultation should be a Complex Case Consultation, for all physical rehabilitation cases, all forms of complex cases, and all athletic pursuits, with a desire for physical rehabilitation, when booking the First Consultation.

We recommend a Child’s first visit is a First Paediatric Consultation.

The Initial Consultation will last 90 minutes (1.5 hours), and all follow up appointments for treatment will last 30 minutes, unless a 60 minutes treatment is required.
